I am currently developing a walking trail of up to 10 birdwatching spots, for Monday 5th May 2014. This is the launch of a community art project for the village of Girton, Cambridgeshire. More details will follow soon.

A very windy day on the banks of the lake in Wivenhoe Park:
Many thanks to everyone who took part, and to Priscila Buschinelli for taking the photographs.

It was VERY windy today, so the recordings are a bit noisy, but there are many more birds than yesterday to make up for it.

I’m really sorry, but I made a mistake with the timing of this one, and so it’s “55 Second Birdwatching” instead.

A very rainy day, so not many birds unfortunately. Hopefully tomorrow will be drier!
Black Kite mobbing crows
When walking under the railway line near Sakuragicho Station I heard two very loud crows (karas: see, I’ve learnt a little bit of Japanese…). I looked up and saw what they were squawking at: a black kite was diving at them whilst they were perched in the trees!
Black Kite
I’ve seen lots of large birds of prey circling the harbour here in Yokohama, and have been told that they are tonbi, or black kite. They have the same threat to snack food as herring gulls do in the UK: so much so that there are warning stickers on the bins!
Yokohama One Minute Birdwatching
I think I need to employ this man for my birdwatching sessions.
I’ve seen two huge birds of prey circling the harbour today, alongside lots of gulls, pigeons, crows, sparrows and wagtails. Let’s hope some of them turn up at BankART Studio NYK when I’m there on Friday.
今日、港で2羽のとても大きな鳥を見た。そのほかには、カモメ、鳩、カラス、ツバメ、セキレイなども。金曜日にBankART Studio
NYKでバードウォッチングをやるときに、このうちどれかが来てくれると良いんだけど。
Are there many birds in Yokohama in February?
I will be doing three One Minute Birdwatching performances, one at the start of each day from 15-17 February, in Yokohama. It’s a busy city, but I will be overlooking the waterfront, so I am optimistic that there will be at least one or two gulls…
2月15日~17日まで、毎日1回横浜で”One Minute
Birdwatching”を行います。横浜はとても忙しい街だけど、ウォーターフロントエリアで観測するので、せめて1羽かに2羽のカモメくらいは見つかると良いのだけど。。。
A Day with a Duck recordings online
Click here to listen to the five recordings from 15th September in Ely. It was a very hot day, with lots of ducks and geese, most of which could be identified using the handy banner I’d made!
A Day with a Duck
I will be in Ely on Saturday 15th September, performing One Minute Birdwatching on the waterfront. It is usually packed with ducks and geese, and so should hopefully provide a particularly busy sound recording. I’ve been making a banner with illustrations of the most likely birds to assist us with speedy identification. Come and join me if you’re in the region: 11am-3pm on the hour, near Babylon Gallery.
